“Staying here was one of those pinch-me moments. We’ve both wanted to stay in an Aman resort for sometime with Morocco and Utah calling to us, but when we discovered Amanbagh it was clear where we were destined to be headed. Extraordinary beauty and possibly the kindest and most caring service we’ve ever known, we couldn’t say enough words of praise and wonder, imploring anyone with an itch to visit India to add to their itinerary. Oh and order the crispy Okra and Spinach chaat – the best we had and we had that dish here, there and everywhere!” — Katherine
ROOMS
We stayed in a Garden Suite – elevated over the main pool and bougainvillea-filled garden with a view so majestic we never quite got used to it. Amanbagh is almost entirely lit by candlelight at nightfall with hypnotic Indian music played live that hums around the whole courtyard. Heated pink marble floors, a capacious sitting area and palatial bed raised on a marble plinth and a bathroom big enough to get lost in – its sunken green marble bathtub being the main star, quarried from nearby Udaipur. Each day artisanal surprises were left on our pillows, handmade treats on our coffee table, and a hot water bottle tucked beneath the duvet – January nights near Jaipur are chilly to say the least.
SPACES
The Aman resorts are known worldwide for their unrivalled attention to detail and pared-back approach to design that imbues serenity. Float from your suite through the pale pink columnar walkways to its collection of domed buildings. A gym, a spa, a boutique, two pools (one heated, one natural) are there to enjoy at leisure, but its restaurant is where we wiled away many hours because the food is nothing short of sensational. Try to fit in a visit to its organic kitchen garden with its executive chef if you can, wandering back via the stables and its magnificently manicured gardens. And at nightfall, be sure to head up to the rooftop for an intimate cocktail and bar snack overlooking the Amanabgh kingdom below.
Paradise. There is no other word. A pale pink palace that rises out from the heavy morning mists that shroud the valleys in the Aravalli Hills, Amanbagh is a sanctuary found amidst the (marvellous) mayhem of India. It is breathtaking in every respect – the architecture, the ambience and the army of kind souls who run the place, tending to your every need subtly, graciously and genuinely – every person we spoke to seemed to have taken the time to get to know our itinerary and remember our little quirks they picked up by the hour to look after us in the most tailored way imaginable.
Days here can be spent as busy or as blissfully not so as you please. From tiger and leopard safaris and horseback trails on handsome Arab horses to Cow Dust village tours and hikes to picnic while watching water chestnut harvests on open expanses of water, there’s a whole tapestry of rural Indian culture to soak up. Or lie back and soak up the Rajasthani sunshine aside one of its two shimmering pools with a grounding Aman spa treatment to punctuate the day.
